Two things that did shock me from this whole article was how the campuses and courts don't do much for these rapes. Women shouldn't have to continue at a college that has brought them nightmares and had scarred them for life. The second reason was how these men don't get correctly punished. This problem isn't campuses but also politics and government that should be taken more seriously and better punishments to learn their lesson for real. Women should not be scared to talk and speak to an authority. We need to learn to stand up, learn how to fight, and not be scared to speak. We have the right of speech why not put use to it.

    1. I agree with your way of thinking when it comes down to rape victims not being afraid and reporting their rape experience, but I don't really think it is coming forward what they're afraid of. I think victims choose not to come forward or speak because they are afraid of not being believed by others including the college and even the police.

    2. I agree with what you are saying. People wonder why rape cases aren't as many as they should be but to be honest it's because the police or people they tell won't believe them. In the article it says that Tucker Reed wouldn't take a young girl's rape case because he "thought" that no one would believe her even though she had the proof to back her case up. However he replied to her by saying that the jury would never believe her.

    3. Campuses and courts should do something to change this. She's right about men not being punish correctly also they just get few months of prison or something. Women shouldn't be scared to speak up also, if they don't speak up they wont get what's right.

    4. I agree with what you said. The rapists usually don't get convicted until a while after the accident because most victims are too afraid to speak up. These victims shouldn't have to live in fear in their campus. I feel like rape isn't being taken seriously at universities. These people should learn that rape isn't an action that should be kept hidden. its a serious crime, and can sometimes make a person kill themselves, and it could make the rapists be able to rape more women. They should also have male rape victims speak out. But since rape isn't being taken as serious as it should be, people aren't speaking out.

    5. I agree with a lot of what you said. I think that we all need to come together and fight to stop rape. Victims don't need to go to sleep every night or go by their daily life knowing they got raped. A lot of colleges and courts don't really care and that's what victims fear. Even though courts and colleges don't care women should still speak up about what happened to them, there is going to be at least one person or a few people that would listen to that person.

    6. Who says every rape victim is a woman and every rapist is a man? There was a case at university of phoenix where a male student was raped by another man, and there have been plenty of cases with a female sex offender. But you're right; convicted rapist should be punished harder. High end communities, such as colleges, have a tendency to cover up crimes to avoid the government and negative attention from the media to protect their reputation. In one of the pictures it says, "teach your son not to rape." I agree with this. Rapists obviously do what they do for a reason. The reason being their parents were not very involved throughout their children's lives. There have been some cases, however, in which there were psychiatric problems, but they should still be contained in an institution. You say that "we need to stand up?" Well, Hillary supporters, standing up wouldn't be as much of a problem with an instrument of self defense (weapon). When I say weapon I mean one of any sort, Such as a knife or a gun. I think there should be an easier and better way to report a rape, or a meeting dedicated to rape or sexually assaulted victims so that the victims can talk to other victims so they know they're not alone.

I agree with what she said as in we have the right to freedom of speech and how the colleges and courts do not do much to punish these rapist. The consequence should be so severe that the thought of rape would never come into anyones mind. But also there can be male victims and female victims but in my opinion there all the same. Rape is rape and it simply doesn't need to continue to happen especially at a rate of 1 into every 2 students.

    8. I totally agree with her. Men should get punished for what they have done to girls. Girls should also not be afraid to stand up for themselves. They should find someone to speak to and tell them what they've been through and something should be done to stop all these sexual assaults.

    9. I agree with you, I don't feel victims are afraid of coming forward. They are more afraid of being ignored, pushed to the side, or made to believe it was their fault just so the school could cover it up.

    10. One thing that did shock me was that the colleges didn't have that much evidence of the rapes because of their sports program. You all are on the right track too. I believe that rape is always a bad idea too.

One of the main things that shocked me from this article was the fact that fewer then 1 out of 3 sexual assailants are expulsed or expelled from the college after being reported and found guilty. This immediately makes you believe or at least assume that the college isn't doing a great job at giving those responsible for rape the consequences they deserve. I later on realized it made sense once I realized that the percentage of cases that were underreported (63% which was the second thing that shocked me the most) was much greater then the number of reported cases. If only more rape cases were actually reported then maybe the number of sexual assailants expulsions would increase and maybe then encourage them to develop better ways of punishing them and more frequently.

I agree with what you said, schools are not doing enough to protect victims and to punished the rapists. If schools were doing enough there would have been less rape happening in colleges. Rape would have been something all student were afraid of instead of feeling like they could get away with it.

This is so true, more cases need to be reported so that the issue can be handled accordingly. The more cases that are reported the bigger and more important the issue will become. Every rapist needs to be held accountable for their actions and not given kitty sentencing's such as 3 months.

More cases need to be reported. Everyone that has rapes should never get off with it people really get traumatized by it. Nobody deserves to have their privacy violated in this way.

  3. One thing that shocked me the most was that North Carolina doesn't consider anal penetration in its rape law, or that if the male doesn't orgasm it's not considered rape. In my opinion anything that the female or the male doesn't want to do anything sexual is still considered rape. Just because its not the way the orthodox way of doing it doesn't make it right for anyone to do such a thing. It's also really idiotic to tell a girl that she wasn't raped knowing that she was raped but just because the man wasn't pleased it automatically means that she wanted it or that its okay for him to do. Another thing that makes me sick is that Brock Turner only was sent to jail for three months for fingering a girl that didn't want to have sex with her. Just because he didn't put in a certain organ in her doesn't mean she deserves it. He should have gotten at least 5 years for that because in no way, shape, or form will that be okay for anyone to do to any human being male or female.

I agree, the laws need to be changed. If the victim was forced, then it should be considered rape. It shouldn't matter if there was no penetration by an organ or if he didn't orgasm. The laws should also be more punishing; Brock Turner shouldn't spend only three months in jail for fingering an unconscious girl.

Rape is a crime that doesn't usually occur in public, so how are there suppose to be witnesses.

It was very shocking to read that at some schools, the rate of sexual assault was as high as 1 in 2. I wasn't aware that something as horrible as this happens as often as it does because it shouldn't. Also, when the accused is found guilty(which is difficult to prove), the assailant gets a very lenient sentence. That comes to me as a surprise since I don't think that a lenient sentence will prevent them from doing it again. I believe that they deserve a punishment worse than that.

I agree with what you are saying. Rape happens very often and to a lot more people than we think. We should definitely be giving out harsher punishments and stricter laws on college campuses. If we need to decrease rape stats, there should be much more punishments so people will be scared of doing it in the first place.

These victims need to speak out and not let the rapist get away with it. The second fact that shocked me was that just because the rapist use there finger to sexually assault a person they don't get charged with rape but a lesser charge. Rape should be defined by the stores the women is telling not by the law the man has set up.

One thing that surprised me when I read the article was, 63% of sexual assaults are reported to the police. Most people I know say that if they got raped or sexually assaulted then they would want that person in jail for the rest of their lives. I agree ,because I would never want anyone to go through what I would go through if I was raped. To protect ourselves, these people need to go away so they wont harm anyone. This is not okay. We need more people to open up or its just going to be buried in our minds. Memories like that never go away. Another thing that surprised me was that after colleges find the students guilty of sexual assault, they usually don't get expelled. These men should be PUNISHED!! They don't deserve opportunities like college. They are disgusting and ignorant.

  9. The first thing that shocked me was California is one of many states that people define it as a rape state, but lawmakers are trying to change that. What also shocked me was that North Carolina and New York do not consider anal penetrations in its rape laws. Rape is the most underreported crime, according to the National Sexual Violence Resource Center. A lot of sexual assaults aren't reported to the police. The numbers of rape crimes reported are very low especially in college. A reason why women don't report this is because they are scared nobody will believe them.

  10. Two things that really shocked me in the article is the fact that some of these boys didn't get arrested for rape for the dumbest reasons. Like it wasn't rape cause he didn't orgasm, and the other being it wasn't rape cause it was a foreign object. I don't understand how that's not rape, she didn't consent so It was rape and they should've been arrested of it. this is the reason why many girls are afraid to speak up. its not taken as serious as It should be.

I was shocked that 1 through 5 women may experience sexual assault at college and some was as high as 1 in 2. That is very shocking sexual assault should not occur at all. College should be a safe place. Its not cheap to attend college so I would expect a safe environment. I was also shocked that 63% percent of sexual assaults are never reported. If anyone gets sexually assaulted it should be reported. No one deserves to be violated period. NO MEANS NO if you did not give your consent then the punishment should be a minimum of five years. Women have the right to receive justice.

    2. I was also shocked that that many women are assaulted in college. That is such a high number. It's like thinking that 1 out of 5 of your friends will be assaulted and it pains me to think about that. something needs to happen to change that number.

  12. One thing that surprised me was the rate of sexual assault. It's crazy to think that 1 in 5 women will experience it to some degree in college. Even if the definition of "sexual assault" isn't as severe as rape (in some cases) that's still an insane amount of people being assaulted.
The second thing I found shocking was how hard it was to prosecute someone being charged for rape. Only 63% of the assaults are reported to police, and then you only have a few of those actually leading to jail time. That's ridiculous especially if it can take up to 2-4 years to finish the trial, and in that time only 1/3 of people accused of rape are expelled and only half suspended. You can get expelled and suspended for less here at Antioch.

Two facts that shocked me about the article was when they only gave the boy 6 months in jail because it wasn't considered as rape. For it to be rape he had to have raped her with his penis, but he had raped her with his fingers. It's also shocking about California's definition of rape is very narrow. It's not considered as rape if the victim is not penetrated with a penis. I don't think that's right. If it was with either a penis or a foreign object by force and the victim is saying stop and the person penetrating the victim doesn't stop, it should be considered as rape.

Secondly I was shocked by the short amount of time he was sentenced in jail. He's done a lifetime amount of emotional & mental damage to that girl and he's only being held for 6 months. I don't agree to your definition of rape. What you explained sounds more like sexual assault than it is rape. Rape is sexual intercourse without consent (must be opposite sex based on state laws), but sexual assault is any sexual contact that is forced on somebody (by a man or woman). Either way, I feel like these sexual crimes should be dealt with better by the government, and also by schools since they're hiding these crimes.

Brock Turner sexually assaulted an unconscious woman, and he was only sentenced 6 months, but only spent 3 months on good behavior. This scared me. Someone dealing drugs is sentenced to years in jail while a sexual assaulter only get 6 months? Legally, Turner isn't a rapist. This needs to be changed so he and others can be sentenced a more deserving time in jail.
The fact that only 63 percent of sexual assaults are reported, yet prosecutors often don't take the cases also shocks me. 63 percent is already a lower number than it should be, and still most of those cases aren't pursued. This is only helping the rapists. Our laws need to change, more of these criminals should be put behind bars. This rape culture cannot change unless our laws do.

Stanford university honestly should've been all over it especially since he was caught behind a dumpster. its horrible people would have the courage to penetrate a unconscious person. its also blows my mind that in some states "rape" is only if a male penetrates a female in the vagina. if a woman is penetrated in the anus then the person can only get charged with sexual assault. in some states lgbt people cant even be "raped" because of what the law says about heterosexuality.

He was very wrong for doing what he did and even if he did penetrate her with his finger, it's still unfair because SHE DIDN'T WANT IT, IT WAS NOT HER CHOICE. He should have been sentenced with a RAPE charge and should have been sent to PRISON for what he has done. 3 months isn't even enough compared to the lifetime the victim has to replay what happened, it makes me sick and sympathetic towards the victims.

  21. One thing that surprised me was that after the drugs she was forced to take and the rape she received, they're still forcing Kesha to work with this man. I believe that one a woman should have the right to back out of this situation if it gets this bad, if she is forced to do these things and still make music that is injustice. Its sad that all she wants to do is make music but she has to work with her rapist. Then that passion just slowly died because she probably won't even feel comfortable writing music after these 6 albums. She has to be scared everyday until these albums are made that she can't get out of the situation and he can do what he wants. For that this very unfair and he should be charged for these crimes because no matter how high she is in the music industry, she's a human being and has the same rights.

Another thing that surprised me was that Brock Turner isn't going to be charged with rape charges but with sexual assault charges. Just because she was penetrated with a finger and not a penis does not mean it's no rape. The victim did not want it and she rejected so that is forcing her to commit or do sexual acts which is rape. That's like saying you're not playing a sport you're playing basketball. Its the same thing because the definition of sports includes basketball just like the penetration of anything into a victim that doesn't want it is rape. He should have been charged with rape and had a longer sentence because this is also unfair because he gets to be free while his victim is still suffering from remembering the details of this crime.

Two things that shocked me while reading this article is one being that the rate of sexual assault was as high as 1 in 2. That's scary to read meaning that every one of two girls in college is raped . College should be a safe environment due to the fact that it's not free . Even if it was free it still should be safe for students to feel comfortable in the place that they are staying at . Another thing that shocked me was reading where it said that " Brock Turner is not technically a rapist because he didn't penetrate his victim with his penis." the definition the state of California has for rape is very foolish. Rape is Rape no matter what you use or what part of the body is included . If the person does not want to do what you want them to do and they are forced to do it , it is rape .

It doesn't make sense to me how men can just do it no problem. They don't understand how it feels for our bodies to be misused when it is symbolized as a temple. It shocks me how unreasonable and childish little boys can be I don't get it .

Another thing that shocked me was how a person can get fingered and its symbolized as rape. The article was right rape doesn't have a definition. A foreign object is a finger? I feel as if rape should have something to do with a penis going into a girl . But then again rape to me is any type of forced sexual contact from one person to another. He only got six months for that when he deserved at least 2 or 3 years. The government needs to see and pay attention more to college campuses and school grounds.

I agree with you 100% because girls aren't giving respect to their bodies or themselves when they just let forceful intercourse happen. They don't speak up to say no to the situation happening. Also rape can be classified as lots of different types of intercourse, but anyone should be able to know when it's important enough to report it.

One thing that shocked me is Brock Turner isn't a rapist, legally. He was sentenced to 6 months but it was reduced to 3. He inserted his finger in her area and she didn't want it, that is forced sex and that is rape to me. It's insane that people like him get 6 months, killers get decades in prison, and to be honest, he deserves to be in prison for a longer time.

Another one that shocked me is how ridiculous the prosecutors are. They often do not want to represent the victim. The rapists are getting away and they don't help the victims, that's a shame. People like that should be locked up and they don't need to be in the campus/college. This whole state needs to change their laws period, this is unacceptable.

One of the things that surprised me was that in North Carolina they think that rape isn't consider rape even if it's anal. I honestly think that any type of sexual activity without permission from the other person is considered rape. Standford University should've been all in the situation since they caught the person outside behind a dumpster. I think that it's rape if the victim is saying stop to anyone who is forcing them in any sexual way because it's wrong. I also think it's wrong that only 63% of rapes are reported to police because all 100% should be.

  27. I agree with what you said. I think that we all need to come together and fight to stop rape. Victims don't need to go to sleep every night or go by their daily life knowing they got raped. I feel like rape isn't being taken seriously at universities. These people should learn that rape isn't an action that should be kept hidden. They should have male rape victims speak out. But since rape isn't being taken as serious as it should be, people aren't speaking out.

One of the things that really shocked me in this article was that when survivors do come forward, many prosecutors do not take their cases. Rape victims are people that should be supported heavily. Not supporting them just makes rape even more popular, and gives the people that rape more confidence to go ahead and rape even more. Another fact that shocked me in this article was that if a college finds a student guilty of sexual assault, they still don't usually expel them. Again, this just gives rapers more and more confidence. Something as horrible as rape should have a very harsh punishment. If rapers rape and just go on with their day, they will want to rape more because they know nothing will happen to them.

Two things that shocked me from this article is the fact that 63% never reported and that the ratio is one to two. Reading that is just shocking! Student's shouldn't go to college to get raped. Where are the college securities, shouldn't they do something about this? If there's no support than there's no jail, which makes rape in colleges something normal. Another thing that shocked me is how court treats these situations. The boy was only sentenced six months in jail. This nonsense should be stopped sooner rather than later. These girls need support and that won't happen if they don't speak up and let there voices be hear!

It made me think back to looking up different colleges and their numbers of sexual assault crimes were. Two things that shocked me from the article was that the students getting raped don't pursue immediate action until after a month or so. I think that as soon as the incident happens you have to let someone know as soon as possible. Because they will guide you during this critical period of time. The other thing that shocked me was that given that more than 4 out of 5 knew their attackers. That means that maybe making a lot of friends around the campus might not be a great thing. What I found intriguing is that rape is differently defined across legal systems. Some systems limit rape to be only between a man and a woman. Others may define it even more narrowly to exclude many various situations. Another thing that was that prosecutors may not take a rape case if it is unlikely to win over a jury. This shocked me because it implies that many prosecutors only care about winning and looking good instead of actually caring about the victim's case.

First off probably the most shocking fact of this entire article was right at the start. The thought and fact of every 1 in 5 women getting sexually assaulted at college is crazy. Its a terrible thought and even then, at some colleges its 1 in 2 women. Another shocking fact is that in many places the attackers get off easy because its hard to define rape properly. Its upsetting to think someone could sexually assault someone and completely scar them, then get off by technicalities.

The first thing that shock me is that 1 out of 5 girls may experience sexual assault at college. Out of that 1 , 21 percent are undergraduates. The second thing that shocked me was that ex-Stanford student Turner, wasn't accused of rape because technically he didn't put his penis in her. I believe that he should of been accused of rape because she said no and no means no and she was also forced which that is raped. California should stop narrowing the definition of rape.

    ReplyDelete

    1. I agree with you 100%. California needs to stop narrowing the definition of rape. No does mean no. I get why the colleges don't believe the girls, because they believe that they should have enough control over what they drink and how much they drink. The ex-Stanford student Turner, knew what he was going to do, he had to thought it out, including the consequences, and had it planned all the way out.

  42. "Given that 4 out of 5 rape victims knew their assailant experts believe, social pressures play a large role in why rape goes unreported." "Women in college have also identified fear of not being believed, not being sure whether what they experienced was a sexual assault and not wanting family or other people to know about the incidents as reasons for not reporting." Those are the two things that shocked me. I can see why they don't report it, because nobody may want to hang around them or they may get called explicit things. They may start to get picked on more. They may get put on social media. Social pressures make it harder because they may have been raped, but they didn't report it because they didn't want to stand out. They may have got told that their family members were going to get injured. She may have too much stress on her life if she goes and tells, which leads to possibly suicide. They are also the weaker vessel, and they may have had something in their drink, or may have been on drugs when the incident happened. Somebody could also persuade them to think that it was their fault instead of the rapist so that's another scenario, that could have happened. Regardless touching somebody's body without their consent, or if they say stop, no, and their being serious it is considered rape, so it is sad.

One of the most shocking things that I saw in this article was that around 1 in 5 women may experience sexual assault at college. They don't get to speak out because they feel like they did wrong in getting in that type of situation. People define rape in many ways that they think is right. Their really isn't a big definition of rape they take it as it wasn't rape due to no actual contact .Like in Turners case he used his fingers and a foreign object to rape his victim. This caused a big chaos in whether he did wrong or not. The most shocking thing is that they don't punish them hard enough they are very lenient towards different races. While others suffer more time due to racial problems.

One thing that shocked me as I was reading the article was that most survivors do come forward, but yet the prosecutors don't often take on their case. This happens because most prosecutors are willing to take the risk but most often prosecutors will take the case if he or she knows that he or she will win the case. I think that is not right. All prosecutors should take the case even if its a win or lose because the victims need all the help they can get. Another thing that shocked me was that rape is the most underreported crime. This is shocking because rape is a big thing going on and most people ignore and thinks its not important until they become the victim.

Some people have even committed suicide because of how emotionally hurt they became after the incident.

2 facts from the article that shocked me were how California law doesn't see Turner as rapist, because "he didn't penetrate his victims with his penis." 1. I agree with her when she says rape is rape no matter what.I think that if america wants to resolve rape they should all be on board with one definition of what or how rape is considered. With several states convicting rape differently it allows many people to get away with rape.

The first thing that shocked me is that 1 out 5 women get raped. I thought it would be a bigger number. Rape is a big issue and the statistics support this. Another thing that shocked me was that California defines rape as only using the penis and doesn't consider foreign objects. It is rape if the person doesn't consent to it, no matter wht it is.

I agree with your definition of rape if the person does not consent it is rape. Rape is a big problem and to me 1 in 5 women in a college get sexually assaulted is a lot. That is saying if 5,000 girls go to a college 1,000 of them will get raped that is a lot and a huge problem which needs to be dealt with.

Rape is such a cruel thing to experience with many people unfairly charged. The crucial part is that in a college 1 in 5 women will experience sexual assault that number is a problem. There should be more justice in cases to stop it from happening with bigger consequences. Another problem is what is considered to be rape like in Brock Tuner case who was charged with a count of three felony charges. If he was charged in California he would not be a rapist technically because he did not penetrate with his thing but with a foreign object. That is unfair and to think of many rapist in California getting away with a lesser punishment for doing same thing a Brock Turner.

I agree that rape is indeed a cruel thing and also that there should be a bigger consequence for doing so.People that think about raping think of so because there isn't a big consequence on people who are rapist.Another thing everybody should be punished for doing anything at force even if he did it with an object instead on his thing.

"63% of the victims from rape don't ever talk about it", it really shocked me because that's a high number and they are only counting the ones from colleges. I am really not that much surprised because people are always afraid of what the society will think of them if they say they have been raped. Society is really corrupted, of course there will be people who will say bad things about you even if you don't say anything, but that doesn't mean that you should keep quiet.

"Less than 5% of completed or attempted rapes were reported to police officers". It just keeps coming up over and over again, the number of brave women who dare to look for justice. don't be afraid of what people think about you if they knew you were sexually assaulted, be afraid that if you don't do anything the same thing could happen to someone you dear to you. So don't be silent brake those chains of fear and look for justice with the thought that you can help to save others, and ovoid them form going through the same fait as you did.

The two most shocking facts are that Around 1 in 5 women may experience sexual assault at college.I would of had thought it would be like one in ten.but one in five is a lot even though it is college.Another fact that shocked me was that 63 percent of sexual assault is not reported to the police. That is over half of sexual assaults that aren't reported to the police.that a lot of rapist getting away with it and going to jail for it.

  71. Going into this I didn't think much would shock me because its no secret that rape isn't taken as seriously as it should be. Thought I was surprised when I read that the definition of rape isn't the same in all places. The word rape brings a pretty universal understanding that someone was assaulted in a sexual act without consent. Its hard to understand that someone can sit at a podium a act so lenient towards a person who created a physical and emotional trauma to another. Another thing I didn't know about was how a student who commits a crime of the type, they "usually aren't expelled." A student could have been accused of cheating and in a blink of an eye, hes out. But this student who will effect this other person for life gets away with out even a smack on the wrist.

    1. I strongly agree with how rape is a universal definition ,and that many different states have diverse opinions on what rape means. If the victim says no they mean no. You have no consent after the word no leaves their mouth. I also agree with how surprising it is that a judge is so okay with a individual that has caused so much emotional hurt.

      Delete
    2. I think that you are completely right in the aspect of believing that rape has a universal meaning. Lenience towards these people isn't something that should be tolerated. Understanding that these victims are severely hurt, more acts should be taken to provide them with the justice they deserve.

      Delete
    3. I agree with everything you wrote it is crazy how a student who raped somebody "usually aren't expelled" but when someone cheats they are. Colleges don't take rape as serious as it really is in my opinion.

One shocking fact that I noticed is that Turner got charged with three felony accounts of sexual assault, but yet he is not a rapist. He is technically not a rapist because he used a finger instead of penetrating the female with his penis. I feel that he should be a convicted as a rapist it does not matter what or how you penetrated a woman, if she says no she means no. No means no! Something else that surprised me in this article is that North Carolina does not consider anal a part of their rape laws. Neither did New York until 2013. Honestly, I disagree strongly with these facts especially because the women have a choice on if they want "it" or do not. Referring back to the previous fact ,if she says no she means no.

The first fact that surprised me and made me physically ill was that in some colleges 50% of women have reported being sexually assaulted. This concerns me personally because my sister is currently in college and I believe I need to buy her a tazer now. the second fact that surprised me was that some victims don't take legal action. this concerns me because this can leave a rapist on the street ready to go again.

What really surprised me in this article was how few of the students who commit a sexual assault gets expelled. It honestly baffles me that people with power (like a judge)can just allow someone to get away with doing such a life changing crime, that really affects some ones life for the worse. It really makes me stop and ponder if the judges even have remorse for not considering the victims feelings at all when they allow the sex offenders go free, without suffering any type of consequence for their wrong doings. The other thing that shocked me was that public offenders don't take on victims cases. I feel like its kind of idiotic and trifling to not try and help the victims because if the roles were flipped they'd expect help.

one thing that shocked me was that at some campus's 50% girls are sexually assaulted I knew that sexual assault is high but I didn't know that it would be half the girls that go to the school. Another thing that shocked me was how most of the students who commit the crime nothing serious happens to them most don't even get expelled from the school, its almost like the colleges don't care.

  76. Two things that shook me in this article is that women who are rape are afraid to report it because they think people would think there lien or won't believe them. Also these women know who rape them is a sad thing it could be someone that trust and that person just took advantage of them. It's sad that 63 percent of people have never report to the police that they where rape, by not telling this give the rapist opportunities to do it to a other women when not reported immediately.

Two things that shocked me about this article was the 63% of sexual assaults of people who never report to the police, and that the rate of sexual assaults was a high as 1 in 2 in some of the schools. 63% is a high percentage. This percentage will keep on increasing if people maintain quiet and do not report to what is going on. The other, is that 1 out of 2 sexual assaults exist in some schools. This shocked me the most because it is literally the half. This is crazy!

One of the things that surprised me the most was the California law against rape. The way the California law defied rape is like telling the victim that their story is lie. Its like telling a women that she wasn't raped because the man wasn't on top of her or because that he only used his hands. It doesn't matter how they defined rape if a women says "no" then its no or else it's rape. Because it still leaves a mental and emotional scare. The other thing that surprised me the most was how society stops sexual victims from telling their stories because of the way they treat victims. The sexual victims not being protected by the law because the law is only giving three or four months for a man, when the women is spending her entire life trying to forget what happened to her.

The California law Turner is not technically a rapist and he will not spend more than three months in jail even though he sexually assaulted a woman on Stanford university . The second thing that shocked me is that many victims don't pursue a legal action against the rapist it's been estimated that more than 63 percent of the rape cases .They deserve justice, just like a family would whose loved one was murdered, or like a victim of a theft would. they're all just as important sexual activity without permission from the other person is considered rape. Stanford University should've been all in the situation since they caught the person outside behind a dumpster. I think that it's rape if the victim is saying stop to anyone who is forcing them in any sexual way because it's wrong. . this was just not a good outcome in my opinion . I hope its not anymore cases like this .

It shocked me about this article was how colleges don't report any rapes due tot he fact that they don't want the reputation of their school to become a bad one, they don't care for these situations because they feel like half of the rapes aren't even rapes and some even say that if they didn't actually rape them then it isn't rape. That is totally not fair because no one deserves to even get close to getting raped. Another thing that shocked me was how when guys rape on campus the school half of the time doesn't even tell them to leave the school, their solution is just for the guy not to get close to the victim and expect the victim to be okay with that knowing their rapist is still on the loose and could attempt to do it again. In all I'm just really shocked by the way rape in this generation is handled, they obviously don't see that rape is a serious matter and it affects the victim making them commit suicide. Most of the suicides there has been were for rape or bullying. its just sad how they cant put a stop it.

First thing that really shocked me was that many victims don't immediately and may never pursue legal action against their attackers. It shocks me why a victim would give up their right and not try to fight and get back what they deserve. It stated how rape is the most underreported crime. Which is a shame because the more they let it go and never immediately report it, the more it will cause rape to happen. Also another fact that got me shocked was how even after colleges find students responsible for sexual assault, they usually don't expel them. Every student that was responsible for sexual assault should be punished. They should also include it in their transcript. So other colleges could be aware.

For example, a prosecutor told a college student that he wasn't going to take the case and told her that a jury would not take her side. It's shocking how rape can be seen as a normal thing. Another thing that shocked me was around one in 5 women may experience sexual assault at collage. Thats bad because so many people get raped and some people don't report it because they're either scared or they are scared that people won't believe them.
